About Cross Country

What age can run?

Children from second grade to eighth grade  can participate in the XC program!

No Experience Needed!

Anyone who likes to run, to give full effort, and to have fun will want to join the team. The coaching staff conducts practices and races designed to improve each participant's fitness, and help develop their running ability. 


CLCF cross country competes in invitationals such as the Ocean State and Campopiano as well as USATF Junior Olympics. The team holds 5 of its own developmental meets at Briggs Field (Chafee Complex) and at Cranston West track.

The boys 9-10 team and Nate Brennick(as an individual) have qualified for the national XC Junior Olympic Meet in Reno, Nevada on December 8, 2018.

Junior Olympic Coaches

Coaches Ken Horn, Steve Johnson, Melendy Johnson and Greg Brennick. 

Coach Steve and Melendy have been the head chairs and coaches of the cross country program since 2018.  

Rec Coaches

Coach Greg Bachaund and Tom Aman. 

Coach Tom has been a coach with CLCF cross country and track since 1991.

Coach Steve and Melendy and the XC coaching staff will work with the runners to have fun, stay fit and become stronger.

The season starts the Tuesday after Labor Day and finishes in late November with Junior Olympics.

Practice is held at Briggs Field (Chafee Complex), Cranston West track and Roger Williams Park at the Temple to Music. Each practice day is noted on the season's schedule.
